Although frowned upon by some gurus as something that belongs to the past, article marketing is still one of the dependable ways to market your online business.

 

In this post we will look at some of the more important benefits of article marketing – that is, submitting articles to article directories.

 

 

Article marketing is free!  Yes, it is completely free.  Some online marketers would say that no Internet marketing is completely free because it involves your time, which could be used in other ways to generate income.  Marketers refer to it as opportunity cost.  I would agree to a certain extent, but it still does not involve taking dollars out of your pocket, which is usually in short supply when new online marketers are starting out.

 

SEO by article marketing.  Article marketing can contribute greatly to your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) efforts.  For your own site of blog to rank highly in the search engines, on-page and off-page SEO is required.  Off-page SEO relies on getting backlinks, when other sites link back to your site.

 

When submitting your article to article directories, you are usually not allowed to link back to your site in the body of the article, but can do that in the author’s resource box at the bottom of your article.  The more articles your can publish on these directories, the greater the chance that the search engines will index more backlinks to your site.  The better directories, such as Ezinearticles, also have a decent page rank (PR), which means that these directory sites are seen to have authority and give weight to backlinks from them.

 

Article marketing provides traffic to your site.  This happens in two ways. Articles from the main article directories often rank well in the search engines.  This means that people typing in the search term that the article is all about, could encounter your article on page one.  In many instances your article could be on page one of the search results while your site is still nowhere near it. Off course, if visitors think that the article is of value, they may click on the link in the author’s box and land up on your site.

 

At other times people may go directly to article directories to look for information, find you article, and click on your link.

 

Article marketing result in branding you.  Book authors are usually seen as experts in their field.  The same applies to the authors of articles in article directories.  When you contribute quality content over a period in a certain niche, people will associate your name with the niche and see you as an expert. You will gain credibility and their trust.  And this is exactly what you need, especially in competitive niches, to be successful online these days.

 

Article marketing can presell.  A good article can also presell your product or service. A visitor who clicks through to your website from an article directory must have been impressed to a certain extent by your content and may be in a more positive buying mode than someone who just landed on your site courtesy of a search engine.

 

Viral article marketing.  Visitors to article directories are free to copy your article and place on their website, as long as they give you credit for the work.  Should you write a very interesting article, or maybe something controversial, chances are that your content could find its way to numerous sites all over the Internet. In other words – it could go viral. Needless to say that you could get tremendous exposure from just one article –  much more than if you would have just place that article on your blog.  This especially true if your blog is not yet ranking highly in the search engines.
